A watts to amps calculator finds current (A) from power (W), voltage (V), and power factor (PF) for DC, AC single-phase, and AC three-phase circuits.

What is it

Current equals power divided by voltage. For DC, I = P / V is enough; for AC, only real power does work, so you also divide by the power factor, and three-phase circuits divide by √3 times the line-to-line voltage. Enter line-to-line voltage (for example 380V or 480V) for three-phase. If the power factor is unknown, use 1 for resistive loads and 0.8-0.9 for motors as a reference.

FAQ

How many amps is 1,000 watts?

On AC single-phase 220V with power factor 1, I = 1000 / 220 ≈ 4.55A; with power factor 0.9 it is about 5.05A. On 120V it is about 8.33A at PF 1.

Why does the calculator ask for power factor?

In AC circuits the power factor is the ratio of real power to apparent power, so a lower power factor means more current for the same watts. Use 1 for resistive loads and 0.8-0.9 for motors.

Is watts to amps input sent to a server?
